Community-Led Action
We follow participatory principles and work with communities to strengthen their ability to lead change.
Our journey to uplift marginalized communities and
transform lives through dedicated programs.
It began with a shared concern. In 2020, a group of us—medical doctors, clergy, gender specialists, and social workers—saw the deep-seated challenges facing marginalized communities in Cameroon and refused to accept them as permanent. We founded the Wanlah Foundation on a simple, powerful idea: that by working together, we can uplift those in the margins and transform lives for generations to come.
This is our story, our mission, and our invitation to you to be a part of it.
We do what we do because we envision empowered and resilient communities thriving in harmony with their natural environments. We believe in a future supported by robust health systems, accessible education, and sustainable agriculture for all.
Our core mission is to advance development through a comprehensive strategy that spans health, education, agriculture, and environmental conservation. We believe that by equipping people with the right tools and knowledge, we can empower them to navigate crises and build a safer, healthier society together.
Our mission drives every project and community partnership. To learn the specific objectives guiding our daily work, explore the core of our purpose.
Lasting change relies on trust and partnership. We follow participatory principles, using our resources to empower marginalized people by strengthening their capacities. We don’t just implement projects; we build relationships and involve communities in planning, management, and evaluation.
In the marginalized communities we serve, the need is not abstract—it is a daily reality. The problems are complex and interconnected, holding back entire generations.
In 2020 there were about 6 million malaria cases. Maternal mortality is 453 deaths per 100,000 live births. Only 58% of Cameroon's population has access to basic sanitation.
Food security is urgent: over 2.9 million people faced high acute food insecurity in late 2023. Meanwhile, natural habitats are threatened. Cameroon lost 1.03 million hectares of tree cover from 2001 to 2023, a 3.4% decline since 2000.
Despite progress, major barriers to education and empowerment persist, especially for girls and women. Nationally, girls’ secondary school attendance is 11% points lower than boys’. Women’s labor force participation is 57%, versus 70% for men.
These challenges are significant, but they are not insurmountable. Every day, we partner with communities to forge a safer, healthier, and more prosperous future. Together, we are making tangible progress possible.
We envision a future where every family has the knowledge and resources to prevent disease. Where mothers have safe pregnancies and deliveries, and their children grow up healthy and strong.
We see a future where communities thrive in harmony with their environment. Where sustainable farming feeds families, reforested lands protect vital ecosystems, and green energy powers progress.
We are building a future where every child can complete their education. Where women are leaders in their economies, free from violence, and equipped to lift up their families and communities.

Since 2020, our dedicated team and passionate supporters have worked to turn our vision into reality.

In the communities we serve, urgent needs remain. Families lack basic rights like education and healthcare. Women are denied economic opportunities, and natural habitats face illegal logging and unsustainable practices. These obstacles hold back generations.
